Catholic Church beatified the 'Dulce blessed the poor'

The image of the nun Sister Dulce of Bahia (1914-1992) was first revealed as this blessed 18h Sunday at the beatification Mass held at the Exhibition of Salvador.

The "blessed Dulce of the Poor" was greeted by tens of thousands of faithful, who waved handkerchiefs to the image with white with the image of the new Blessed.

The rite of beatification lasted exactly 20 minutes. First, was made the official request for beatification by the Archbishop of Salvador, Bishop Murilo Krieger. One of the religious present then read the biography of Sister Dulce, born Maria Rita de Souza Brito Lopes Pontes on May 26, 1914.

About 15 minutes later, the Cardinal Archbishop Geraldo Majella Agnelo, representative of Pope Benedict 16 and chairman of the ceremony, he read in Latin and Portuguese, the apostolic letter signed by the pope, the beatification of religious officiating.

The final moment of the rite of beatification occurred at 18h, with the unveiling of the image Sister Dulce for the first time as "Dulce blessed the poor."

The celebration began at 17h in the presence of tens of thousands of faithful. The president Rousseff accompanies the ceremony, along with the governors of Bahia, Jaques Wagner and Sao Paulo, Geraldo Alckmin, besides the former Sao Paulo Governor Jose Serra, President of Senate, Jose Sarney, mayors and religious authorities of Bahia.

After the rite of beatification, the Sergipe Claudia Cristina Araújo dos Santos, blessed with a miracle attributed to the Catholic religion, ascended the altar, where they were also displayed objects belonging to the new Blessed, now considered relics.

Then Dom Geraldo continued with the Eucharistic ceremony. The celebration, which confirmed a more devout born in Brazil ended at 19.40.
