Expert explains how university research on longevity of mining title holder found in the Guinness
The mining Valentine Maria Gomes, a resident of the city of Carangola in the area mining of the forest, was recognized by Guinness Book of Records as the oldest woman in the world, exceeding 48 days in the U.S. Besse Cooper, former titleholders. Maria Gomes is 114 years.
The discovery was made by teachers and Cassio Turra Wajnman Simone, Department of Demography at the Center for Regional Development and Planning (Cedeplar), Faculty of Economics UFMG. The IBC is a group of researchers from various areas concerned to understand the aging process and in particular how to reverse it. The group is also dedicated to forming a database of supercentenarians - people with at least 110 years - around the world.
According to Turra, to validate a case of extreme longevity in the database is necessary to follow rigorous registration process which is based on protocols developed by demographers of Europe and USA. The main requirement is that the supposed evidence has supercentenarians the time of his birth, as the record of birth or baptism.
"In Brazil, the ancient records are very poor, which makes this kind of research," said Cassius. "No wonder we've never managed to prove a single case of super-centenarians." Proof of age Maria Gomes was based on their birth records, marriage, birth of the child as well as construction and verification of your family tree, in recent documents (identity card and work permit) and certification that is alive. Cassio Turra explains that cases of super-centenarians are rare worldwide. Estimates in developed countries is about a super-centenarians live for every five million people. According to the researcher, no one knows the weight of the components of environmental, behavioral and genetic studies in the determination of such long lives.
